![]() ![]() As soon as you prick your finger you want to hold your finger down towards the vial. It’s a sharp prick for a second, and then you are done. I’ve had paper cuts hurt way worse than this did. If you are nervous around needles or fear the pain, you really need not worry. When you push down on the lancet, it will eject out to prick your finger (it reminded me of epi-pen technology). The lancets themselves are very foolproof, you can’t actually see the needle as it is housed inside the case. I ended up needing a second lancet because of this. I didn’t get enough blood from the first draw (my own fault – I accidentally applied pressure while holding my finger upwards and stopped the blood flowing out). I’m going to go ahead and say most people will only ever need to use one. They provide you with three lancets to puncture the skin. ![]() Once your hands are clean and your workspace ready to go, you can move on to the actual drawing of the blood sample. Be careful as the vial contains a preservative liquid at the bottom, do not tip this out of the vial! With clean hands, the kit will ask you to remove all the contents and set up the sample vial in the box holder. If your fingernails are not cleaned of existing DNA you could accidentally contaminate your sample. This is very important as the blood can sometimes run under your fingernail before dropping into the sample vial. They include a fingernail brush for you to scrub under your nails. You will be asked to wash your hands twice. It will ask you to drink water beforehand, if you are very well hydrated this probably isn’t necessary. Once your kit is activated, follow the instructions to prep for your sample taking. If you have problems activating your kit, you can hold off and wait for customer support to resolve it while not worrying about having a blood sample sitting there. I recommend listening to this and doing so before you take your sample. The first thing it will ask you to do is to immediately go online and activate your test kit.
